The city's description, as summarised on English Wikipedia: Constructed in the 1970s, it used to be the biggest multi-purpose exhibition hall in Zhejiang, also Known as Hong Tai Yang Exhibition Hall.

Built as the exhibition hall for "the victory of Mao Zedong Thought"; listed as a Zhejiang provincial protected cultural relics site in 2017.

The hall stands at the north end of Wulin Square, with Yan'an Road to the south and the old canal to the north. It was built in 1969–1970 as an exhibition hall celebrating Mao Zedong Thought, popularly called the "Red Sun" hall, and was Zhejiang's first exhibition venue. After the Lin Biao incident of 1971 the rooftop slogan and tower were removed and it was renamed Zhejiang Exhibition Hall.

It covers about 30,000 square metres of land with 21,266 square metres of floor space and seven exhibition halls. It reopened in 2017 after four years of restoration.
